As a congregation, we try to meet some of the needs in our
community whether it be tangible items or through our time and
spiritual gifts. You will find below a listing of some of Trinity's
traditional Community Outreach activities. For more information
about any of these projects, please contact Sylvia Stouten, Partner
in Ministry, Discipleship at
sylvia.stouten@tlcgr.org.
- Access Food Pantries: Trinity works directly with SECOM (South
East Community Outreach Ministry) through the umbrella of ACCESS.
We do this with an on-going food collection at church to provide
food for people in need.
- Blood Drive: Trinity hosts a blood drive for the MI Community
Blood Center three times a year. For current Blood Drive
information, please see "What We Do/Health Ministry."
- Collections: We have periodic drives to help fill specific
needs at local agencies. Unless otherwise noted, contact the
church office at 949-2510.
- Backpack to School: In the fall we collect school supplies and
backpacks to go to students in IHN or other area shelters.
- Blanket Drive: Collection of blankets to be given to homeless
families by IHN (Interfaith Hospitality Network) and Degage.
- Buckets of Love: Collection of household cleaning supplies
that will be distributed through social service agencies in Grand
Rapids.
- Buy the Book: Collection of monetary donations to buy bus
passes for IHN and DeGage.
- Paper or Plastic: Collection of paper and plastic products to
distribute to local agencies.
- Personal Care Kits: Collection of personal care items to be
distributed to the homeless in our community.
- Souper Bowl Sunday: Collection of monetary donations for food
pantries in the Grand Rapids area to aid in food distribution to
people in need.
- "Undie Sunday:" Collection of new underwear, diapers and cash
donations to buy these items for local agencies.
- DeGage: A group of Trinity folks prepare, serve and clean up
dinner on the third Friday of the month.
- God's Kitchen: A Trinity team prepares and serves a meal and
cleans up four times a year, on the fifth Saturday of the month at
this inner-city meal distribution center.
- GRACE Hunger Walk: Many Trinity members walk and many more
financially support the Grand Rapids annual spring walk that
assists all Grand Rapids food shelves through ACCESS.
- Habitat for Humanity: Trinity periodically joins other Grand
Rapids ELCA churches to build our own "Lutheran" homes.
- Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN): Trinity has joined other
Grand Rapids churches to provide shelter for homeless families for
a week, several times a year. Volunteers serve in positions such
as overnight and activity hosts and meal preparers.
- Knitting: We knit baby caps and other baby articles for local
hospitals and service agencies.
- Quilting: Meets Wednesday mornings as well as works
independently at homes to sew quilts for foreign mission fields
and hospitals. We also make quilts for baptized babies and prayer
quilts for members with particular needs for prayer and comfort.
- Thanksgiving/Christmas Baskets: Trinity members collect, pack
and personnally deliver hundreds of special holiday food baskets
for families in Grand Rapids.
