Trinity offers numerous educational and small group opportunities
during the week - there is something for everyone! Some Bible Study
groups are appropriate for all ages while others are based on mutual
interests or because of the participants' age or gender. Most meet
weekly but some meet monthly. Below you
will find descriptions of some of Trinity's Small Group Bible
Studies. Unless otherwise indicated, please contact Sylvia Stouten
for more information at 949-2492 x 21.
- Ah...Men Bible Study: Trinity men of all ages get together
periodically on Sunday evenings for fun, fellowship and to work on
strengthening their Christian faith, relationships and mission in
their homes, churches and communities. Beginning October 11, 2009,
this men's group will meet in the Church Parlor from 6:30 - 7:30
pm. The study this fall focuses on how to "Fireproof your
Marriage." Men interested in attending are strongly encouraged to
watch the movie by the same title before the first study or soon
thereafter. Firemen live by the adage: "Never leave your partner
behind." Husbands should follow the same adage in their marriages.
- Book Clubs: Trinity women who love to read
get together once a month during the school year. They read all
kinds of literature and enjoy discussing books from a religious
point of view instead of just secular.
-
In-Depth Bible Study
- participants meet at Trinity on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 pm. During the
fall of 2009, the group will focus on "The Promised Land" by
teacher and historian Ray Vander Laan. Please contact Sylvia
Stouten at 949-2492 x 21 if you think you might be ready for this type of
study that requires a commitment to study daily to fully benefit
from participation.
- Pastor Paul's Study Group: Pastor Paul guides participants through
the main themes and topics found in the writings of the Old and
New Testament. No deep knowledge or expertise is necessary as a
leisurely journey is taken through God's Word. Classes are held at
Trinity on most Wednesdays throughout the church year; one class
in the morning at 10:00 am in the Adult Forum classroom and one in the evening
at 7:00 pm in Fellowship Hall. The topic this fall is "The Keys to
the Kingdom." Please call Pastor Paul at 949-2492 x 15 for more
information.
- Men's Bible Study/Discussion: Meet at a local restaurant for
breakfast at 8:00 am at Arnie's restaurant in Centerpointe Mall and participate in a discussion about our journeys of
faith. It is also a perfect opportunity to share time and thought
with Pastor Paul in an informal setting. Please call Pastor Paul
at 949-2492 x 15 for more information.
- LATTE (Let All That Thirst Enter): This group of women meets
once a month on a Thursday morning at Trinity and uses the Bible Study from the
"Lutheran Woman Today" magazine. This year's Bible Study
is written by Rev. Dr. Sarah Henrich from Luther Seminary in St.
Paul, Minnesota and is entitled "To God's Beloved: Paul's Letter
to the Romans."
- Lenten Grace Groups: Grace Groups are one of Trinity’s special
lifelong learning opportunities that take place during Lent. These
short-term small groups meet weekly during the five weeks of Lent
to read and reflect on the theme of each Sunday’s homily.
Thought-provoking discussions enhance your own spiritual growth
and help others grow as well. Signups for Grace Groups begin a
month or so before the Lenten Season begins.
- WBS (Women's Bible
Study): Join other women for friendship-building, support, prayer,
and spiritual growth. They meet weekly during the school year to
study books of the Bible or other Bible-related topics along with
fellowship and prayer time. This is a wonderful opportunity to
take a little time out each week to get to know other women and
grow closer to God. Two different morning sessions are offered as
well as one evening session.
1) Tuesday Morning WBS meets
at 9:30 am in the Church Parlor and then the participants split
into two different study groups. A study of the book of James is
led by Rebecca Ulrich - if your study time is limited each week or
you are looking for an introduction to God's word and how God
speaks to you through His word, this is the study for you!
The other study offered at the same time on Tuesday mornings is
led by Sarah Stobie. This 10-week course by Beth Moore is entitled
"Believing God" and delves deeply into faith and belief. Each
week, participants in this study will have homework that requires
reflection and reading PRIOR to each week's class. Please contact
Rebecca Ulrich (949-2492 x 29) or Sarah Stobie (949-2492 x 24) for
more information. Childcare is regularly available for Tuesday
Morning WBS.
2)
Wednesday Evening WBS meets at 6:30 pm in the Church Parlor. The
participants are studying "The Jesus I Never Knew" by Philip
Yancey - women of all ages are welcome to join them! Childcare is
regularly available for Wednesday Evening WBS.
3)
Friday Morning WBS meets at 9:30 am in the Church Parlor. Join the
conversation around the book of Romans with this new Bible study
from the ELCA. Each session opens with a gathering prayer and
focus activity. From there, participants discuss a key passage
from the book of Romans focusing on literary, historical
Lutheran-theological, and devotional readings. Childcare is
provided in the nursery upon advanced request on Friday mornings.
- Prayer Group (TULIP - Trinity Up-Lifted In Prayer): One
morning per week, a prayer group gathers to pray for the
needs of Trinity, the church leaders and members, as well as for
the ELCA at large. Each session last no more than 45 minutes - you
may pray silently if you prefer not to pray out loud. Each week
begins by reading a few brief Scripture passages and then pray as
a group by praising God, thanking God, confessing silently to Him,
and finally, petitioning for our church's needs that week.
- Sarah Guild: A diverse group of women get together monthly in
each other's homes to provide strength and support, edifying one
another to grow in their relationships with Christ through Bible
Study, books, prayer and discussion.
- Wild Wednesdays: Come for a delicious
dinner and stay for more!! Periodically throughout the church
year, we offer a casual meal at 5:15 pm for just $2 per person ($10 maximum per family).
Afterwards there are several options from which to choose: Pastor Paul's
Study Group, a topical Speakers' Series for Parents, Children's Choir Rehearsal, Homework Opportunity Room, Nursery,
etc. Evenings can be very busy for families...but Wednesdays at
Trinity are easier AND more fun!!
